The International Antarctic Center is a privately owned attraction which will give
visitors a unique insight into the world of the Antarctic while also giving a hands
on experience of the Antarctic. The Antarctic Centre has twice won the
prestigious award for the best visitor attraction in New Zealand.
Among the attractions you will be able to enjoy in the Center are The Four
Seasons (you will be able to experience the four seasons on the Antarctic), Scott
Base, Snow and Ice Experience (will give you a first hand experience of the
Antarctic conditions), The Antarctic Storm (will allow you to experience a
Antarctic Storm first hand) and many other attractions.
Among one of the most popular attractions at the Center is the Hagglund Ride.
This ride will allow visitors to experience first hand what it is like to travel across
the Antarctic in a specialized vehicle. The Hagglund is a amphibious vehicle and
can top 55km per hour. During you ride the vehicle will be put through its paces.
The Antarctic Center is open every day of the year including Christmas day. The
summer hours are Sep 18 to Mar 31 9am to 8pm. The winter hours are from April
1st to Sep 23rd from 9am to 5:30pm. All in all this is a worthwhile attraction and
one the entire family will enjoy.
